What is the one thing you'd want to grab in a fire? That box of pictures from the attic? They're irreplaceable and yet nobody knows what to do with them. Well we think we've got it figured out.
You ship us your photos. Or, if you live in the Austin/Houston/Dallas area, we can arrange to pick them up. After receiving your photographs we conduct a short interview, either in person or over the phone, where we begin to put the face to the name of each member of the family. This way each photograph that we scan can be labeled and archived for easy searching.
Next we carefully and lovingly sort through the contents of those boxes and albums, scanning each photograph in high quality 300 dpi JPEG format. Any photos that are found to have minor scratches or creases are retouched in Photoshop. Then we build a customized website and start a Facebook and Flickr account to host your pictures. We can even make you a hardcover book or slideshow DVD!
With all of your photos now shared online, we tenderly package the photographs and securely mail them back to you. We will then send out a group email to all of your relatives with links to your new sites and albums so that they can view them and comment with their own memories. Once the albums have been created, they can be easily added to by any member of the family using our video tutorial guides available anytime on this site.
Flickr is an online photo-sharing site that allows you to upload your pictures and share them with your friends and family all over the world! We set up your account, upload the photos, write captions and organize them into online albums. Once we’re done, you and your family can continue to reedit and reorganize the photos however you like. Your family & friends can add comments and, most importantly, share memories.
If there’s one problem with old photos it’s that they’re just that—old! As they’ve moved from one generation to the next, they’ve almost certainly been shuffled in and out of various frames, albums and boxes. And like anything of their vintage, they have come to look a little rough around the edges.
We digitally remove those unsightly blemishes, creases, cracks and tears, and correct their fading or yellowing colors. We may not be able to turn your Great Aunt Maude into a looker, but we can at least restore her to her photorealistic best!
Your homepage is your family’s personal website with your own unique URL. The homepage acts as a place to store all of your most treasured family keepsakes. Think of it as your own digital safe — only the things you keep here can never be destroyed and will last forever! Examples include family photos; home videos; a family tree diagram; important documents like birth and wedding certificates, newspaper articles, immigration papers; anything and everything that you want to preserve for posterity. Simply choose the theme, content and arrangement of the site and we do all the rest.

After we’ve scanned all of your photos it’s time to share them with the world. We put together a DVD slideshow of your pictures and make as many copies as you'd like. You can send them to your friends and family, and anyone with a TV and DVD player will be able to watch them.
We are two twenty-somethings living in Austin, TX. By day, Sophie is a freelance web designer and photographer and Nick is a freelance television and advertising writer. By night—and on weekends too—we run Pictures From The Attic. We started P.F.T.A. after having a blast organizing and scanning some of Nick's family photos as a gift for his Grandma’s birthday. When we realized what an important and special service we were providing, we figured there were other families who might need us. Turns out there are! Pictures From the Attic combines many of our passions: storytelling, history, photography & family.
Still not sure? Feel free to email or call us at any time, and we'll answer any questions you may have.
